So far, physical living spaces and virtual information spaces existed in parallel universes. By means of «location based services» complex information can be integrated into the experience context of the user. The artistic research project «Weana G'schichten» (Viennese Tales) is on the trail of the potentials of these new media cultures.
«Weana G'schichten» (Viennese Tales) is a collection of location based services which exemplify the concept of bottom-up generated applications for niche markets. Located in the city of Vienna, different services are showcased which exceed the usual examples (Where is a good restaurant? Where is the next gas station?) by far.
We all have them in our family albums, the typical snapshots of the city's places of remembrance: changing actors in front of everlasting motifs. By means of a collection of live events in the public space, the artistic research project «Weana G'schichten» (Viennese Tales) showcases the cultural hotspots in Vienna, bringing them to life.
«in-der-stadt.net*living spaces|information spaces» is an online forum which enables web communities to map location based cultures of everyday life, exemplified by the city of Vienna. New location based ways of communication can be tried out which lead to new perceptions of one's own habitat.
The Viennese «Backing Expert Club» tries out new ways of passing on knowledge, while the service «Viennese Song» resembles the first location based album. And the citizens of a neighborhood publish «snapshots» of their everyday-life on the spot. This way, the «Virtual Neighborhood Album» becomes the memory of the neighborhood. The «Weana G'schichten» (Viennese Tales) illustrate the Mobile Lifestyle 3.0 by means of exemplary social tools.
